December 28, 2009

That was awesome getting to talk to you guys! You all seemed really happy so it made my day! You told me about the necklace on the phone and that Marley tried to eat it... so you didn't really cry too much LOL :)

Janel told me all about her new guy she started to like a little... but she didn't want to get into a relationship before the singles cruise.

Even if Donna and Brian move, Marley and Jenna wont really be that far away so they can still play and all that stuff... especially when their favorite uncle gets home and then they will have another person to play with. Our family is really close so i don't think they will have a problem being friends.

Ruben and Monica ( the ones who just got baptized) game me an ornament... so i will be sending it home soon. It was funny cause Monica kinda jumped at me and gave me a hug... it was kinda nice... first hug of the mission. And i thought about it... and it doesn't say that we cant hug in the white hand book... it just says we aren't supposed to flirt... so i think it was safe. They are just really good people!

Elder Law knows my area really good... he was in it for about 8 months before i got there... so its kinda nice... cause Blaine never really got to know the area because I knew it already. He is a really good guy. He played football for Boise State before he came on his mission... and he is going to go to BYU after. He is just a good Idaho LDS guy. Sings a lot though... not that good of a singer. But he is loud. LOL

Yea I am for sure obeying the rules... they aren't hard rules to follow. It is really just the following the commandments... and then a couple others that just keep us safe so its not that hard to keep the rules.

I love you guys!

November 30, 2009

My thanksgiving was pretty sweet. We went to this persons house who had 13 non members there and then 4 missionaries... that was pretty sweet... they were way fun people! We just hung out really with the teenage guys... they were fun to be with I would hang out with them if they lived by me. At the house the family rented a bounce house and the missionaries were able to go in there and wrestle... that was so much fun! Everyone picked on me though; think it was cause I was the only one who wouldn't take it serious. Everyone else would have turned it into a real fight. It was fun though; good food too. Then we went to another families dinner and that was good food too, but they never had enough to drink so I went home and drank a lot of water. Good time though. We had normal turkey... well the first family had theirs smoked... that was really good too though... normal food.

I love the rockets! They just don't last very long sometimes, except for grandpa has had his for a long time. I still remember when your rocket went up and spun in circles and almost took off some heads.

That is fun that you guys went shopping and did breakfast and stuff. We had to run to Walmart here in Brawley that morning cause we were out of milk. There was hardly anyone there; it isn't as busy here where nobody has money. That was fun to put up the tree and get the decorations out when you guys went out to go shopping. I just put on some awesome music and put up the tree and play with the Lego train. That is a good time of the year.

I was able to watch some of the BYU game the other day. I actually saw them win cause it was on when we were at at the mission leaders house for dinner and we just were watching it. He told us he wasn't going to turn it off and its hard not to watch it when they are just sitting right there.

I broke my credit card the other day, the mission one. I went to buy something and realized it was cracked where the magnet strip is. I am not sure how it happened but i will have to use some of my other money until they send me the new card. So, just make sure there is some money on there for me. Ii will have to get some food today, thank you.

We baptized most of the people we were teaching. Finding new people is always the hardest part cause once we start teaching them they know how much they need the gospel. But, finding people is always the challenge. We went to talk to this kid the other day who said that he wants to talk to missionaries. He turned 18 so now his dad can't say no. But he was smoking weed; lots of it. I found something out; Marijuana triggers migraine headaches... lol good to know.

Its been a good week here. I didn't get transferred again, so I am still in Brawley... and I am still with Blaine. Elder Gunnell got a new companion and he is fun. He is from Bountiful and worked right by where Brian lives. Pretty cool.

I love you. Have a good week.

November 16, 2009

There is about 10 missionaries that have mono... the kissing disease. Its been pretty bad... but its in San Diego. 2 of them went home for the recovery. And I hope I never have to do that... coming out 1 time was hard... 2 times would be extremely hard.

We were told that we couldn't give any advise to the ward here on how to better do things. They don't like to be told by 19 year old people that their is a better way to do things... so it has to come from the mission president... things are coming a lot slowly but surely. Hopefully they will start to go see people by them selves.

We actually didn't end up going to the temple cause President said it was too far of a drive so we will just have to go next transfer... we are only supposed to go every other transfer. So that will be something to do next transfer.

Mom, reptiles carry diseases? So do humans so I am not worried about it. I washed my hands so you don't have to worry about it at all :) The shed that the spider was on was about half the size of our camping shed. So it was still a big spider.

We had interviews... i think it was the shortest one yet... i was in there for about 1 minute... usually i am in there for about 1 minute and 30 seconds. Lol My interviews aren't very intense. But next transfer... we aren't going to have interviews or zone conference... it is just going to be 3 strait days of training... and then we are going to go out with the mission president or other leaders... probably from salt lake and be coached actually teaching people... sounds kinda scary

Being out here in California, I have learned to love how faithful the members in our ward are. It will be nice to be in that ward again. People here are very stubborn... and no one has a car so they can't really help people get to church. Hard stuff sometimes.

I would love to get letters from the girls in the ward... they were fun especially Chalese Johnson... we were best buds. I get letters from Bill and LaRae Parker every month and i make sure i write everyone back who writes me. It is fun to get mail.

I have played in The Primary here a little bit and do for priesthood every once in awhile... primary was the funnest to play though cause kids are so funny to hear sing.We are going to like 3 different houses for dinner so that will be a lot of food. There was about like 8 people who have asked to have us over for Thanksgiving... so we had to limit it to 3. Still too much. but whatever.

I would definitely play the new call of duty when I get home. Even if there is a new one out... I love those games! they are so fun. I know you don't like them cause you just shoot people, but its a fun game and I love all of the old ones too. So if you wanted to buy the game I wouldn't be against it lol.

Thanks for everything

November 9, 2009

Kevin told me he had jury duty and then told me about the new call of duty video game that is coming out tomorrow lol. Not that i didn't know it was coming out anyways lol. I still have all of the good info on video games and stuff like that.

I told Janel, i think when I get home I will be going to a lot more baseball, basketball, and football games. Not being able to go see any for 2 years, makes me really want to go to some. So you might have a lot of sports watching with me when I get home.

Today is not my p day because we are going to the temple again on Wednesday so i am just emailing. We also have interviews tomorrow. So that will be fun. Those are always good. The people who were supposed to be baptized just are gone. This week has been hard. We spent most of the week trying to find them again. They just leave and nobody knows where they are and the rest of their family don't like us so its hard for us to actually communicate with anyone to find out where they are. So this week has been kinda frustrating, but hopefully things will work out for them, cause they said they want to be baptized.

Last night though, there was a missionary fireside and a guy from San Diego came and spoke. He is a temple coordinator and he used to be a Methodist minister. He has a wicked cool conversion story. Then after he told his story we had a question and answer period and that was pretty cool. He is a good speaker. Funny and smart.

The ward here is supposed to be trying to see all of the less active members too... but it turned into the missionaries doing everything and the lame lame ward doing nothing. .. I am not very happy with this ward we are trying to work with. We told them about the baptism we were supposed to be having soon, and nobody wanted the people to be baptized. They were trying to give us all of these excuses why we should wait. The one that really made me mad was that they aren't on their feet and shouldn't be baptized till they are secure with their finances. WHATS THE POINT IN THAT? They are in a hard spot in life and the gospel is there to help them. Why postpone their salvation?! Angry face :# Yea OK i am done venting now :)

One of the best sections to really learn, in the preach my gospel, is the 4th chapter, I think. It talks about recognizing the spirit. If missionaries can get that chapter down, the rest of it comes a lot easier.

The health care guy for our mission is a doctor. And we have a nurse too. So Maybe they have both? I don't know what they do for medical stuff really? Except the San Diego mission is full of missionaries with health problems. So that might be why we have a real doctor? Everyone has a heart problem or had surgery within the last year. Every one says that, if they don't have anything wrong with their health, they will before they leave.

Everything is great!

November 2, 2009

Yea I have already been out for 4 months... pretty crazy. I AM THE COOLEST PERSON IN THE WORLD... that's how good i am doing lol :) just kidding but i am doing great.

Didn't have the baptism... hopefully next week, but not sure weren't able to get a hold of them very much this last week. They got really busy and very hard to contact. Their grandma had a heart surgery... that got in the way. And then they weren't able to be taught everything. But, they are still interested in being baptized, I think.

On Halloween, we just had to be in by dark... but we worked really hard until then and then for the rest of the night we played racquetball at the mission leaders house. I hurt my knee a little but not like bad i just hit it with the racquet... doesn't feel good. That was very very fun! I loved it! I didn't win very much but; I did win one game 2 on 1, me and elder Mendenhall against the guy who owned the court. He is really good. That day the guy who owns the court cooked us some tri tip sandwiches... which is the same cut of a cow as a sirloin steak... but i am not really sure.

That's what Mel said that Marley was about to be ready to crawl. Hopefully it will be soon. She looked really cute in the pictures looking into the mirror. Did Marley come right to you? lol you sound like you are having a great time being a grandma! A lady in the ward here said that the only reason you have kids is so you can have grandchildren lol funny stuff.

I don't think elder Johnson will be coming back... I have talked to him on the phone and I don't think that their is really any thought to come back right now. He got really close to his girlfriend right when he got home... so me and Blaine think that he could be married very shortly. He is a good kid though and will hopefully make good choices. Except his girlfriend isn't a member.... that's not a good choice. Makes things hard.

Well I am really good looking... just in case you were wondering. LOL

October 26, 2009

I haven't been sick, i actually think that Blaine probably got food poisoning because he is the only one that got sick and he ate some sausage that morning and then he felt sick in the middle of the day but at night he was very very sick. I do have some hand sanitizer.

Haven't had any baptising, but lots of teaching... well not really but good teaching. My family I have been teaching are most likely going to be baptized on next Sunday Nov 1st. They are really cool people and they will be ready cause they have been asking a lot of questions, if they don't understand things and they have been to church 3 times in a row and love going. Hopefully they will stay faithful. That's always what i am worried about... the ward here isn't very good at keeping people active cause they have their little clicks. it kinda bugs.

They just brought in 10 sisters last transfer to just work in the Mormon Battalion Center. So they will be doing that, i don't think they will be having any of the guys do any of the work there.

That's kinda cool that Melanie got a job at the mail room. That would be an interesting job, i don't know if i would like to be up that late. But a job is a job these days. A lot of people here in Brawley are looking for jobs, but there isn't very many and there are companies laying people off all of the time too.

Wow aunt Gwen doesn't even seem old enough to be retiring. Just the other day she was there to help me put on my shirt after my surgery. Or whatever she did to help me out.... can't remember that part very well cause i was very very sleepy.

So yesterday and today has been sucky actually. Elder Johnson went home! he has only been here for one transfer and then just on Saturday he called president and said he was going home. He packed and then the zone leaders took him to the airport. He was a very good friend and a good missionary. I will miss him.

There isn't very many flowers in this area... maybe in San Diego, but all i see is fields and then i see a lot of sage brush and just sand and dirt. There is good looking flowers in Costco but that's about it lol. Your day time high is my night time low lol... i like Utah a lot better than California cause there is that change in seasons.

I did got the halloween package and ate a lot of the candy, but of course i shared with Blaine. I got it the same day as the cord. We are going to carve pumpkins on Saturday cause we have to go inside before dark. so we need something to do lol

I am still doing great and working hard :) I love you so much

October 19, 2009

Elder Blaine and Me San Diego Temple
I will probably buy another memory card for my camera. Then I can send it home and you could print the pictures at home. It just costs a lot of money to print them off here and then send them home in the mail.

We eat at members house usually at night for dinner. For breakfast I usually cook me some eggs or have a bowl of cereal, cause that's good stuff too. At Costco I was able to get a mass supply of food for lunch and cereal for breakfast. It's good food too. I got hamburger meat to cook me some sloppy Joe's or tacos or whatever I feel like at the moment. What I bought cast about 25 dollars and it will last the whole transfer.

Blaine and I are always cool and best friends. We work pretty hard and love the work.. So it's easy to get along and lets face it. I am amazing so, how could we not get along. lol. just kidding.

Elder Overman moved and a guy replaced him, named Elder Gunnell. He is really good at speaking Spanish and is a funny guy.

Mom, we were trained not to do anything in the earthquake, so I just fell back to sleep. I was tired, so I wasn't going to move. Sleep was more important. I am a missionary, so I would have been protected by the power of god :)

Lots of people ask me about my headaches. I always forget to write about them. Just so you know, I haven't had a bad one since the MTC. That was the worst. I still have the little ones a couple times of week, like I did when I was at home, but, they don't. cause a problem at all. I haven't missed a day of proselyting for any sickness; just Elder Blaine throwing up everywhere, that was a good reason to stay inside.

We just did one session at the temple and then stayed and played in San Diego for the rest of the day, because Elder Johnson and I have never been to San Diego so they showed us around a little and it was really fun. But, I will definitely go back to the temple again. We should go as a family when I am done with my misson.
Elder Johnson and Hall
Fossil Canyon

Today we went hiking around some rocks; that was pretty cool. It's called Fossil Canyon, but there wasn't many fossils there. It's pretty mountainous; it was fun. I think I ma in better shape than when I use to go hike places. We hiked most of the morning, like 4 hours. I loved it. I think I will be hiking around a lot when I get home. Its a lot of fun.

We should have two people getting baptized next week. They are really cool. Eric and Elizabeth jut moved here and are trying to start a new life and get away from some of the bad things they were doing. They came to church last week, and we started teaching them every day almost and then on Sunday we asked, if they would prepare to be baptized on the 25th. They said, "Let's pray about it." So, we said go and pray about it tonight we will talk to you about it tomorrow. Then Eric was like, "How about I pray right now?" I tried to stop him, not really. It was the coolest thing ever! They received their answer right then and there inside the church.

Besides them it's the same people that we have been teaching . . slowing down again, after we found a lot of people, but still lots of work to do.

If I have an English appointment that day,I usually study what we are going to teach them in English. But, every other day I study in Spanish. I get a little frustrated with Spanish. I threw my text book at my bed cause I couldn't understand anything, but after I took a break from it for a little while, I was able to do better.

I love you so much. Thanks for everything.

October 15, 2009

I don't really have to cook much in this area; we have dinner every night. I have a microwave, but we don't have a crock pot.

I am staying in Brawley with Blaine still, so not hying really changed too much. Elder Overman got transferred though, so there is only Elder John left in the desert with me that was here from my first transfer.

I experienced my first earthquake! It was in the middle of the night. I woke up cause my bed was shaking and I looked at the ceiling and noticed it was moving too. So, I went back to sleep. I woke up during the after shock also. They weren't very big.

The temple was so awesome! It is so pretty inside and outside. It's kind of small inside though. Not very many people go. The temple workers said that mainly they are there to go through sessions cause there isn't enough people . They have a session every hour instead of every 20 minutes like in Ogden.

I didn't see any other missionaries except for the ones from my district. It was their working day, so I think it would have been really hard to see people. We went and played football on the beach though and that was awesome! Made me want to swim, but just walking in ankle deep water was good to me :)

The main fruit around right now is grapefruit or pomegranates. But living close to Mexico we get a lot of produce pretty cheap like bananas.

I am doing great! Thank you for everything.

October 12, 2009

There have been a lot of people just showing up in Brawley or at church and wanting to meet with the missionaries. So that has been pretty cool. I like that a lot better than knocking on doors. We have a lot of coolio people to start teaching so hopefully I don't get transferred yet, cause I love these new people and want to see them be baptized :) But, I will go wherever and teach whoever.:)

Tomorrow morning we will wake up really early and drive to San Diego and then just spend all day there and drive back at night. That will be a blast. So, I will sleep in my own bed :) and go to bed early because 3:00 in the morning is probably when we will leave.

I have been to the citrus fields that are in California Sorin'. We went on accident trying to find a house that didn't exist.
I am doing fine you never have to worry about me. I am he-man :) Language is always coming along. I am doing great. I have had a lot of time to study, because Elder Blaine has been sick, but, it's been good.

Today I am getting a Costco card so I will be able to get some good stuff from he store. I also got my flu shot for 2 dollars. My shot hurt more than when you do it, mommy, and I only had to wait in line for 3 hours to get it lol. There were so many people there. It was at the mall and the line wrapped around the mall and it took us 3 hours to get inside and then when we came out there were people past where we had started to line up. It was crazy how many people showed up for it. I guess Michelle got the Swine flu, that doesn't sound good.

I taught the elders how to play Rummy, so that was kind of fun. They weren't very fast, so it took a half hour to play the first two rounds. It will be nice to play with people who know what they are doing in a couple of years. But, it was still fun, cause I haven't played for a while. I know how to shuffle cards now. When I get home I won't have to have someone else do it. Now I just need to get the bridge down and I will be golden.

I really love the mission. I really miss you guys, but I know that is just a little sacrifice to be able to serve the Lord and we will have a lot of time together after.

My testimony is always improving. I get to see miracles every day and I love being able to help people come closer to Christ. I think That I haven't really learned much more than I already know here on the mission, but I just remember a lot of stuff that I had forgotten. You guys have taught me well and I am prepared to do whatever comes my way.

I love you all. You are an amazing family. Thank you for all of the support.

Ocrober 5, 2009

For conference we just went to El Centro and watched it there. There wasn't very many people there. Besides the 12 missionaries, there were about 5 other people on the Saturday session. Then the priesthood session had about as many as our stake usually does. Everyone has to drive a lot further . . .crazy. On Sunday, besides the missionaries, there were about 20 people. A lot of people probably watched it on the Internet . . .hopefully.

We slept at the missionary house in El Centro; that was pretty fun. We didn't want to have to drive back and forth every morning. It was a good relaxing day on Saturday, but Sunday was very busy. We got home from conference an then we worked our butts off to make up for not being able to the day before.

I loved conference. I think this is the first time I have actually listened to every talk. Usually I am doing something while listening and miss some talks to do other stuff. My two favorite talks were Holland in the last session and Ballard int he priesthood session. Holland always is just so strait forward and blunt about how people need to change. He was intense about the Book of Mormon.

I am not very worried about learning Spanish. It is kind of frustrating, but I am getting better every day. I am learning more words and I think when I get into the San Diego are, I will learn tons more, because I will be in a Spanish ward, not an English one like I am now.

I think we will be getting the flu shots at the health clinic by our apartment for 2 dollars. They said they will be getting the Swine flu shot too. They just don't know when for sure. I will be sure to get everything taken care of . The last think I want to do is get sick for a couple of weeks. That would slow down the work and I already don't like to eat because it takes away from trying to find people.

I eat though, don't worry :) I probably eat too much. Mexicans always just pile on the food. I ask for a little more and get more than I started with, oh well. I think I am gaining muscle weight so that is good that I am not gaining much weight.

I need to send Carolyn a card :) She is a great aunt and supports me all the time.

We were playing racquetball this morning and elder Blaine hit me in the throat with the racquetball. It hurt a lot. I had trouble breathing. But I also learned today how to hit really really hard and now I hit it next to the ground, So, when I get back to Utah, we will have to play some and I can teach you the ways of the force, of just hitting it faster :).

I don't like snow. I like where I am. I would rather sweat than get snowed on.

September 28, 2009

Hmm... End of summer? I don't know what that is? It is supposed to be in the 110's until the end of October here. I am starting to not mind the heat though. 100 fells really good. In the mornings though and at night it is starting to get down to the 70's so that feels really good to go walk around the streets, except there is still no people to talk to.

We are going to find someplace to give us a flue shot. We found one for 2 dollars so we are probably going to go to that place on the 10th of October. There is one by our apartment but we haven't checked on how much it cost yet. But I will get one, because getting sick doesn't sound fun at all! and then the work would have to stop for that short time.

Language is coming a lot slowly. I don't know very much still, but I can at least help teach the first lesson now. So that's progress :)

That's so sad that Monty was hurt so bad! I don't think I would ever drive a car without seat belts in it. When I rolled my car, that seat belt saved my life, with the help of Heavenly Father. That's sad hopefully everything goes well for his recovery.

Jed is such a stud! I am so excited for him to get going on this great experience of serving the Lord. He will never regret giving up some things to go on the mission. Its a pretty good trade if you ask me. Don't have to worry about anything.

I love going to help people do whatever. I don't have to wear a tie. The most service I have done was one day we split a bunch of wood for the Guillen family that got baptized. They sell it at Glamis sand dunes and they were running out of time. So I got to use this machine that put 2,000 lbs of pressure down on this piece of wood. It was way sweet. And then we had a really big wind storm so we went and helped people clean up all of the branches. I was suprised when i was the only missionary who had used a chain saw before. So I got to do the easy part of cutting. They picked up everything I cut.

Mom, that's cool that you have so much training on the family history now :) it is a cool thing, Lots of people never got their temple work done while they were here on earth and we need to help that work move forward. I thought you would have been sad that your play time is coming to an end. LOL Grandma and her play time. I won't have to ever bottle anything if I live here. There is fresh fruit everywhere. Just depends on the season for what kind.

We went to dinner that night of young Women's conference and if Janel was at the game i could have seen here, because the member had the game going on TV while we were eating dinner. But i wasn't really paying attention to the game anyways.

It's actually hard to get people to come to listen to conference, because it is in El Centro at the stake center. Thats a good 20 minute drive, and they are very willing to come all this way. And not many people have cable or anything. So we will see what happens with this conference.

We have had a pretty good week with talking to people. We have seen a lot of people coming back to church that we didn't think would have a month ago. So hopefully they keep coming. Blaine and i have been working hard trying to get more and more people to come to church. We have actually worked with a lot of less active people. That seems to work for some of the time. Except for the Old Branch President that refuses to come to church. He took it very personally when they got rid of the Spanish Branch so now he wont come to church. And now he doesn't even remember how to speak Spanish. And only speaks English so I don't see what his problem is? Hopefully he will come around.

September 21, 2009

Work is going alright . . . people are just not very open to talk to missionaries in this area. It's like pulling teeth, but we are trying some different angles to see if things will work better?? People are back from vacation, but still aren't around because it's till 110 most of the days sot hey come out at night when we have to be inside. Hopefully things will pick up. We have a couple of people that seem like they are going to be good investigators. Elder Blaine and I made a list of inactive families and made a goal to try to see all of them. There are more families in this ward than in our whole stake in Utah . . but only a handful of families actually come to church. The list is pretty big. Met some really cool inactive families though that seemed like they just needed an invitation to come back.

Elder Blaine and I get along really well . .but our Spanish doesn't. We talk a lot of English so the only real practice we have for Spanish is our study time. So it has been a little hard. I haven't had to go on a bike again since the first time, but, Elder Blaine and I walk around the streets a lot during the day knocking on doors and trying to find some new people.

We will just be going to the stake center for General Conference. It don't think we can go to a members house, but I would rather do that cause then we can be comfi and still watch it :). It will be good either way.

This week has been a pretty exciting time. Blaine and I have caught 2 lizards and a frog. We had the lizards for about 3 days and made a habitat for them and played with them for a little bit, but then one of them lost it's tail. That is what they do to try to get away. So, we let them go because they had no tail. Then the next day we saw a frog jumping in the middle of the road. So, Blaine and I jumped out of the car and chased it for about 5 minutes until we finally caught it :) We took some sweet pictures and then put in the other elder's apartment to surprise them. They didn't really care, but thought it was cool. We released it that night into the same field where we caught it. Good Times!

Still working hard with a couple of investigators, but a lot of our time is going towards finding new people.

September 14, 2009

My week with Elder Blaine has been pretty awesome. We get along really well and love to talk so with the long drives we have, it's a lot better than just talking about Harry Potter for 2 hours. Elder Overman hangs out with us. His companion does not like to join in the fun.

Everyone in the zone went and bought Nerf guns and we are going to play capture the flag today . . kind of like Halo, but in real life. I don't die still, I just come back to life.

The Sand Dunes were awesome. I always take pictures of everything we do. We took some really cool ones. I kept really good care of my camera though; I had it in a case and inside of a bookbag. I remembered what happened to dads. We also were just walking around not driving 4 wheelers, really fun though.

Today we went to a place called salvation mountain, it is a pretty cool place too. I took a lot of pictures. It is a mountain where a guy has painted the mountain and just keeps painting. He has been there since like 1948 or something like that but he thinks he has only been there for 20 years. He just preaches about Christ loving everyone and then paints all day. You might have to look it up on google or something because it is really interesting. But I will send you the pictures.

We teach a couple of people here and there, but we are still working on finding some people. Spanish is pretty hard, but the Spanish culture is a very friendly learning environment. They always just want to help you learn. I love working with the Mexicans.

Love your favorite missionary

Week has been good. I got your cookies and i loved them very much and so did the other missionaries that got some. They weren't around very long. They all got eaten. That same day i got a package from Carolyn that she dropped off at the office. It was full of candy! probably like 30 dollars worth. What a great aunt.

Missionary work is kinda slow this week because of the holiday weekend and the transfer on Wednesday.

I didn't go to San Diego but other missionaries did because of transfers. I am still in Brawley but with a new companion named Elder Blaine. He is from Salt lake. Really cool guy and doesn't talk about weird things. He reminds me of Red McCormick off of the movie Footloose. Especially when he has his sun glasses on. We get a long very well so far and i love just talking with him. Sometimes we talk a little too much. but its been fun.

Elder Blaine doesn't speak Spanish very well either, so we are learning a lot more than we i have before, because if we don't' learn it we are in trouble. During our studies we study only in Spanish, because we know the gospel good enough in English. I used to study in English with Kingsford, but i like studying in Spanish better.

We get to go to the temple 4 times a year. I am going to be going on the 13 of October. It will be good.

The couch cushion was not off of our couch lol! it was from one that we threw in the dumpster so don't worry Mom. But by the time the Boyce's move out of the house i will probably be moving in so don't worry about renting to missionaries either :)

This morning we woke up at 3 30 and drove to Glamiss, Shaun Saunders will be glad that i have been there. It was pretty cool! we didn't ride anything but we just hiked around and then watched the sun rise. Then when the sun was up we were jumping off of the edges and flying down the hills. Really fun stuff.

Its so sad that Natalie ran away again! she doesn't understand how much pain she creates for her family. I hope I never created any pain for you guys. I probably didn't cause i am an angel. :) lol just kidding, but our family has always gotten a long very well thanks to our wonderful parents :)

I have not had black beans yet but those are just yucky anyways! all beans except the green ones are bad.

I love you very much! thank you for all of the support

August 31, 2009

There is a lot of people around San Diego or that came or are coming to this mission. Transfers are this Wednesday so we will see if I stay with Kingsford or if i get a new companion? I don't really mind either way. There is going to be 22 new missionaries that come in on Wednesday so that will be cool. I don't really care if i get a new companion or not, we work hard and we get a lot done so either way is good.

I am kinda glad that we wont have to go to the Davis reunion anymore, it is time to start the Doug and Claudia Hall reunion :) cause everyone will be married besides me in two years and there will be little babies :)

I don't know how Grandma loved to can, I like what goes in my tummy after we can, like the salsa and stuff. That is the good part, not the work lol.

There are two Spanish speaking sisters in my zone but they are in a different district and are in Calexico. But they travel all over the zone teaching the people who will only talk to sisters. We hang out with our whole district on Mondays. They are really cool, they all seem to get along with each other well, except elder Kingsford doesn't like to do anything but sit at the computer and email. We usually play some basketball or go do some other stuff. Last week we went bowling. That was a lot of fun! We paid 5 dollars and could bowl as much as possible for an hour and a half. Good deal.

We have found some really good people to teach this week. It has been on the best weeks of the transfers. Lots of lessons and met some really cool people. One guy talked to us and he said he had met with the missionaries before, but had to go to drug rehab and now he wants to talk again. We gave him Alma 7 to read and when we say him the next day he had read Alma 7-10 and had a goal to read the whole book of Alma before our appointment tomorrow so that will be really cool to see him and talk about what he has learned.

Pood (refried beans) is still bad. People say Iwill get used to it, but you can't get used to things that taste bad. It still is bad food :) I haven't had to eat black beans yet, and those are worse than pood I would think. Oh well my stomach is getting stronger.

I haven't had to speak yet, just in a baptism, but that doesn't really matter, cause it was like 3 minutes long. The ward is pretty good at having the ward speak, and there has been farewells a couple of times. So not a lot of time for missionaries to speak

I got your package. On the 26th so that 0ne was good and the m&ms are already gone. lol very yummy, and I like having the punch too. I will be sending a package home this week sometime also, I have some stuff that I don't want to have to pack around while I am here and I won't be needing it. .

August 24, 2009

My week has been really good ; not really too busy but we worked hard and I have learned a lot. Brawley is always hot but it has cooled down to about 98 degrees sometimes it still gets into the 100's but not as often. Now it is just really humid and that kinda is not good either. People are coming back, but a lot of people didn't keep the appointments they set up with us this week, so it was kinda frustrating. Not extremely bad but still not what i like to do. Trying to find things to do instead of the appointment is hard to do on the spot. I don't have to go to the ward council anymore. The ward mission leader came back into town so he goes for us.

The interview with the mission president was good, we talked in Spanish for a little bit, and then we talked in English cause i could only understand parts of his questions. He just asked how my Spanish was coming, and asked if i was doing anything that would not let me have the spirit. I told him about the trouble i have with my companion not wanting to exercise in the morning and he said that is always a problem. He said i will get the hang of things. He asked me if i know my area and i told him yes, so maybe i will get a different companion next week? either way i will be happy.

I will have to go on a country rock band tour with you guys when I get back. You all will be way better than me by that time.

That is awesome that you are getting bikes. Are they good ones? The ones you got last time were good but the one I road here for that one day of exchanges was very easy to ride. It seemed like I didn't have to work as hard to move as I did on your purple one. Janel is always going to be the more healthy one of the family. I do a little here and there, but she keeps up with it more. Running a 5 K just doesn't sound at all fun to me. AT ALL., but good for her :)

Stockton and Miranda are awesome. I love that family, they are some of my best friends in the ward. Did a lot of people come to the neighborhood party?

The swimming party is always a good way to start off the school year and stuff :) i miss swimming. I can do it later though :)

I feel like i am growing a little bit in the gospel, but a majority of it is that i just realize how much i already know. People know a lot more about the gospel but they just never try to talk about it. I am fine living on my own. I don't seem to have any problems. There has been a lot of grass hoppers around lately and that isn't cool they are ugly things lol. But everything seems to be going really good. Scriptures are always amazing and you learn more things every time you study. Language is slow. but its coming.

My knee is good; headaches i don't have any. The only time me knee has given me problems is trying to sit on the floor. So i just don't do it very often.

Your missionary is doing great! I am just working and trying to find people to teach. It is so hot everyone leaves the town until school starts, which is in a couple weeks so that will be good.

Spanish is OK, pretty funny story with that. We went and started teaching a guy named Tao, who we found the day before outside his apartment raking leaves. He only speaks Spanish, so, I was sitting there listening to Elder Kingsford teaching him in Spanish and understood that he was talking about the atonement. So, I kind of jumped in and said "Jusucristo pega por pescados" which I guess translated into "Jesus Christ hits for fishing". I meant to say Jusucristo paga por nuestro los pecados", very different, cause that means Jesus Christ paid for our sins. So Elder Kingsford had to correct me cause Tao got very confused. I laughed really hard after we left and told what I said. Good Times!

The bugs are fixed. The bugs in the bathroom were coming through the walls because we didn't have base boards around the bottom of the wall. They came and put some on, so it is fine now. I have only seen one cockroach and it was dead. We have a pretty clean apartment, so it's not bad.

I bought a flash drive the other day, because, there have been pictures and stuff I wanted to save. So, I used my America First Account. I also bought a Rubik's Cube. I can actually do it now. We started using it to teach a lesson, because we were teaching a couple of little kids so, We figured it would be fun and help explain it better.

On P-day we mainly just go to the church to email and then we play basketball or soccer, or go eat lunch some place. The swap meet was pretty lame. Just a lot of junk and stolen stuff.

I haven't had any chocolate milk yet, but last week I did drink a whole gallon of milk; actually, it was more like 3 days. This morning when we went shopping, I bought 2 gallons to get through the whole week. If, I come back weighing more, it will be because of the milk.

I eat a lot of Mexican food, and a lot of spaghetti. I still don't like spaghetti by the way. lol Especially when it is Mexican spaghetti because it has mushrooms and a lot of peppers and just things I don't want to eat, because they are bad for you. I eat it anyway, but I am not happy about it. I also eat a lot of beans or at least I have been this week. Still don't like those either. The newest thing I have tried has been Chiles Rellenos, which is a pepper stuffed full of cheese. They were OK, but if they had shredded beef or shredded chicken it in, it would have been better.

Looks like Robintino's was a good time!

August 10, 2009

My week was pretty good, with the baptisms we had last week, we kinda lost our teaching pool of our regular people, so we started to focus more on finding than on just teaching. We found 4 new investigators, and one lady seems to be really interested, and she Loved that we have a prophet, so that is always a step in right direction. I try speaking Spanish especially at church because people know that i am just learning, but i don't know very many words yet? so its hard. I can pretty much say a prayer in Spanish and say a really simple testimony. Like really really simple, but its a start.

The church has a pretty good air conditioning system, but it was broken for the first 2 weeks, so yesterday it was really great cause it was back on. It is actually cold and i am glad to have my suit jacket on when we go to church. I haven't had to say anything in church yet, except yesterday I gave 2 girls the holy ghost. The 2 older ones we baptized and elder Kingsford confirmed the other 1. The ward that we serve in is pretty small. There is 4 of us serving in one ward. But People say a lot of people move to San Diego during the summer and that it will get a little more busy in a month when school starts back up.

The way the church is set up is kinda weird because of the Spanish population. So it is an English speaking ward, but they have translators that translate everything into Spanish, and the Hispanic people just wear headphones the whole time. What is also interesting is when we go to Sunday school, there is an English and a separate Spanish Sunday school, so that is interesting, sometimes we go to the Spanish class sometimes we go to the English class, it just depends on the investigators that show up.

In your ward have you done away with PEC? Yesterday was the last day that we were supposed to have PEC. They changed it and are now having a Ward Council every week, on a week day. Just wondering if that is new for just out here or everywhere. They said they have had told to start this new way of things about a month ago, but are just doing it now.

The members are ok at giving us people to teach, but not really. They are good at fellowshiping people though. They are all over the new people when they come to church, trying to get to know them and get them involved with the church. A lady that got baptized a month ago is probably one of the best ones. She wont let people walk away from her. She is really loud but one of the nicest ladies i have met.

I have worked in some gardens one time, but that was about it. Well elder Kingsford and i also helped some people set up their computers and get things going cause they didn't know how to do anything. And we wanted them to look at the mormon.org

Today we started playing Hacky sack. I am so bad at that. I kick it really far away or just miss it. But there are some people that are really good. I think i will stick to basketball and racquetball.

August 3, 2009

My Spanish is OK. I still don't know what is really going on but i can kinda understand parts of what people say and i can tell people that i am a missionary of the church, but that's about it for right now.

I went to go talk to a family and there dog attacked me. well jumped on me... didn't bite me, but i took a picture of my shirt afterwords the girl ran out and got the dog away from me and then she felt so bad about my shirt. But i was like "isn't that what wash is for?" she laughed really hard, and then told me i am too relaxed about things. :)

This family is way cool though... Yesterday i baptised one of them, and elder Kingsford baptised the other 2. Hopefully the mom will want to be baptized later. It was really cool :) first baptism down, now i can really get to work right? lol I also had to give a talk at the baptism, and the ward is so small that everyone just stays for the baptism so it was pretty much just another sacrament talk.

The Guillen Family - First Baptism

Wednesday i went on exchanges with elder Overman and I was on a bike all day. That was pretty awesome i loved being on the bike cause i got to talk to a lot more people. I didn't just drive past everyone. Pretty much i talked to everyone that was in view. Biking in 117 degrees was a little warm, but the hot wind would dry my sweat before i even got bad, but when we stopped to talk to people, it was like a waterfall started down my face.

My day has been good so far, we just did our laundry this morning, and we just got back from a swap meet. There is so much junk there. We went looking for some ties, and one elder wanted some new basketball shoes, but we didn't really find anything. Last Saturday a couple elders went and found like 6 really nice ties and bought them all for $1.75 so we wanted to do that again but didn't have the same luck.

They don't want people sending letters to the apartments because we are only there for like 6 weeks and then we could be changed, and being 3 hours away from San Diego it probably would be 6 weeks before someone would be able to bring it to my new area. That is just a rule that the president has set and so i figured email would be ok.

I tried to watch the video after Marley's blessing, but the computers we use don't have a program that we can watch it on. So i don't think i will ever be able to watch them, but i did figure out how to download pictures that are attached.

July 27, 2009 Brawley; Spanish Speaking Wow!

Yea so the mission president is a really cool guy. He is really funny and knows tons. He speaks 4 different languages. He will be my mission president for all but about 5 days.

My companion from the MTC Elder Lawter is from Kansas, but he has been and will when we get back go to UVU.

Zone leader in the MTC was kinda pointless, I didn't really do anything. except I gave the new missionaries a tour of the MTC when they got there. My last day there, there was a kid who was having a really hard time, so i had to meet with him and kinda know what was going on. We actually had to call president Hacking in to meet with him because he wouldn't talk to anyone. I never found out what was going on with him.

Wednesday morning I met with President Donaldson. After we prayed, he said the Lord wants you to be a Spanish speaking missionary. So I speak Spanish now. lol Well at least I am learning how to. I should be getting new name tags in Spanish and stuff so that was pretty nerve wracking. Elder Lawter got switched too. But yea, president Donaldson gave me the gift of tongues and that was amazing. I think that is why I am picking it up so fast. I can understand a little but by the end of this transfer I should be able to hold my own. Elder Overman, a missionary who lives the floor above me who rides a bike, hasn't told his parents that he got switched to Spanish. He is going to sup prise them when he gets home. I couldn't do that lol. I was too excited to tell you.

I am serving in a place called Brawley. You know how there is the desert in my mission, that is where I am. I am in a car though: I am driving a Toyota corolla 2010. Its an amazing car. The reason why we are in a car, is because our area is probably from our house to plain city and to Hooper. It is a big place and it is only one ward. There is another set of elders that are on bikes and they cover the close places.

You said it was hot in Utah the other day? Well just to let you know how the weather is here, yesterday I was in church with a suit jacket on and it was only 125. That is the high for July but August gets hotter they say, so that will be fun. I only have to have my jacket on for church, though so that isn't too bad.

The apartment I live in is actually really good. It wasn't, but the month before I got here they started replacing the carpet and the fridge and we should be getting a new oven soon. The only problem we have is bugs. They aren't like tons but in the bathroom there are just some little black bugs that are annoying, not nasty.

The address for mail is just 7404 Armstrong Place San Diego CA 92111. I don't know the address for my apartment. But if you send anything by mail I might not get it for awhile: Because, I live 3 hours away from the mission office and someone will have to drive out to us and that only happens like 2 or 3 times a transfer. So yea, that kinda sucks especially for talking to Michelle and people that I am not supposed to email.

I don't think I will ever see people from home as long as I am out this far away from San Diego. Its not a very tourist spot. I did see the Mexican border though lol. We went to Calexico for a Mexican party and you could see Mexacali on the other side lol. It was still really far away. There is no way I am getting any closer.

My companion is Elder Kingsford. He is from Texas. He is kinda weird, lol; like he is into role playing games and stuff, and a harry potter freak lol. He is really nice and has been teaching me Spanish and he is a good missionary. He makes me laugh sometimes cause some of the stuff he talks about I would usually make fun of, but i don't.

For fun every morning, me and elder Overman and elder Naylor go and play racquetball in the morning. A member in the ward has his own court that he said we can use whenever we want. So from 6 to 7 every morning we play a game. And today we played some basketball for our preparation time. My team won both times. Not because of me, but, it was fun to do something not church oriented.

Each day, we wake up and exercise; then we shower or whatever and eat. Then, we go proselyte till 1 o'clock. Then study from 1 to dinner. then proselyte after. We do this because nobody is outside or around during the day because it is so hot. Its a little messed up schedule because of the heat. Everywhere else not in the desert has the normal schedule where they study in the morning. Lucky us gets the middle of the day. I think I like it better because your not so tired during the study time.

You will have to tell Kevin he looks good with his hair cut.

I only get a couple pictures on the emails. They only show up every once in awhile.

Tell everyone I love them.

First Letter San Diego

I made it to San Diego safe and sound. I love it so far! President Donaldson is a good guy! I found out my prep day is Monday, not Wednesday. We are just going over some orientation stuff right now. It is pretty hot today; hopefully it will cool down a little. San Diego is an amazing place. Tomorrow I will be able to meet my trainer and get to work.

I love you so much! Thank you for all of the support. I will still only have 30 minutes to email on Mondays. All of the mail should be sent to the mission address :

Elder Clint Joseph Hall
California San Diego Mission
7404 Armstrong Place
San Diego, CA 92111-4912

I will have the mail brought to me on Monday.

Swimming sounds really good right now. But I guess I will have to settle for studying the scriptures.

Make sure to tell everyone that I love them, and that I am still happy and ready to get out and teach.

E Hall, Burbank, and Lawter
The MTC is cool, getting really excited to get out of here.
Today I played basketball. Elder Palmese, Lawter and I played against a guy who started for Dixie State last year. We won 2 of 3 games. It was really fun. I didn't run around much, not wanting to hurt my knee.

Me holding E Lawter

I weighed myself and I have lost about 8 pounds. I thought that was pretty good. It's probably from drinking water instead of Mountain Dew.

Preaching

Just Lifting Some Weight

Well, I have my last teaching appointment in 15 minutes, so this is kind of short. Just a couple of days till San Diego. :)

July 1, 2009 Letter

I have now see Aaron Olsen, Austin Allred, Benson Beus, Richard Hansen, Ryan Holley and a bunch of other people from school. It's kinda fun to see them, but too busy to really talk too much to them.

I started calling people and started talking to a lady and have actually been calling her every day to teach her the lessons. I hope she will accept having the missionaries over to her house. It's been fun talking to her.

One of my favorite things to do is play sand volleyball during gym time. That's one of the things I look forward to.

I actually called that lady back today and we got into this big discussion about baptisms for the dead. It was a hard thing to talk about and to top it off she wanted me to prove everything through the bible. I didn't even try. Then I asked, if she wanted the missionaries, but she said she couldn't? So I won't be calling her back.

Last night I had a really bad headache! I had to take the strong medicine. I was kind of scared because I though I was going to vomit, but I ended up falling asleep around 2 in the morning and I am fine today :). I don't like being sick, but I am fine now.

I am the zone leader for my zone. Me and Elder Burbank and Elder Lawter is the new District Leader

The days go by super fast now, so that is really good. Elder Burbank is from Idaho and Elder Lawter is from Kansas City.

That is a good thing that I didn't see the mouse. I might have to learn to not be afraid of them, but right now I am good not seeing any.

If you want more noise at your house, you could always let Kevin come over or just have family over.

You will have to keep me updated on Janel and her lover and Brian and Donna and their house hunting.

Journals are awesome and always bring back good memories.

The cookies got here in amazing condition and al ot are in my tummy.

I am so glad I don't have to go on that Young Men's trip (backpacking). Bill Urry has been on too many trips as it is. I am surprised you aren't going.

I gave my first two blessings and the first one was to a sister who was having some back problems. It was really cool, I didn't even know what to say, but when I started talking the words came to me and was totally not anything I had wanted to say. The spirit is a cool thing to have all of the time. I also gave a blessing to Elder Dalmese; he got strep throat. It is cool he knows a lot about the gospel and has helped me out a lot.

Thanks so much for the cookies. I love our cookies.

July 15 email

The mtc is going great! I am ready to get out of here and go to San Diego though, it is starting to look like a prison, just a little more friendly and has the gospel. My day is pretty boring, but goes by really fast, we have breakfast and then we have class with a teacher, then we have lunch, then we have study time till dinner then we have a teacher from dinner to time to plan. So it kinda seems like we eat more than anything else. I don't think i have gained much weight but i am planning on checking during gym tomorrow. The Provo temple is just like the Ogden one, almost exactly, it is kinda cool.

Sure Melanie waits to play pinochle after i leave. She is just scared i was going to win so she didn't want to play me.

In my district there is 9 people all guys, or elders. But in my zone there are like 30 people and 7 of them are girls. We go through a lot of preach my gospel, but a lot of just talking to people; learning how to ask open ended questions to involve the investigator. We do a lot of roll playing; volunteers come in and act like investigators, and sometimes I don't know for sure if they were acting or not, so you always have to do the best you can, our goal is just to invite the spirit and let the holy ghost do its thing, we just help. We haven't done any door aproaches yet. I don't think that is a major thing to try to do here? at least for the 3 week missionaries.

I like being the zone leader, i get to talk to a lot of people, but i still don't know what i am doing, i just kinda do whatever the mission president says. And go to meetings. Today i get to give a tour to the new missionaries. so that will be fun.

There is only 2 of us that are going to San Diego but there is 10 people flying with us, so they are here someplace. I just dont know where. We fly out on the 21st but everyone else in my district leaves the 20th so i will have a day kinda just me and elder Lawter so its cool.

Well i gotta go i love you so much!!!
